Ad and tracker blocking
uBlock Origin comes pre-installed and turned on, so blocking starts on your first page.
uBlock Origin, built in
Nirvana ships with uBlock Origin pre-installed and switched on, so content blocking is active from your very first page. There is nothing to find in a store and nothing to set up before it starts working.
What it blocks
uBlock Origin uses community-maintained filter lists to stop requests to known advertising, tracking and malicious domains before they load, and to hide page elements such as banners, pop-ups and cookie nags. Fewer requests also means less data downloaded and often a calmer page.
Works alongside tracking protection
Nirvana also includes Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection. uBlock Origin is driven by filter-list rules, while tracking protection blocks known cross-site trackers and cookies. Together they cover more than either alone, but neither promises to remove every advertisement or every tracker.
See and change what is blocked
Open the main menu, choose Add-ons, then uBlock Origin to find its controls. From its panel you can check what was blocked on the current page, review the enabled filter lists and switch blocking off for a single site.
Fix a broken site
If a checkout, sign-in or video fails, turn uBlock Origin off for that site only using the power button in its panel, reload, finish what you were doing, then turn it back on. Avoid disabling protection everywhere just to fix one page.
