How Nirvana handles privacy

Useful protection starts with clear choices.

Protection has layers

Tracker blocking, private tabs, HTTPS-Only Mode, DNS over HTTPS and Android permissions address different parts of browsing. Use them together according to your needs; none promises invisibility.

Tracking protectionKnown trackers
uBlock OriginAds & filter lists
HTTPS-OnlyEncrypted pages
DNS over HTTPSPrivate lookups
Site permissionsCamera, mic, location
Each layer does a different job. None of them makes you invisible.
2

On your phone

Regular history, downloads, bookmarks and saved logins can remain on your device. Private tabs reduce local history for that session, but downloaded files and bookmarks can remain.

Protect it with a screen lock. Anyone with your unlocked phone can see local data.

3

Across the network

Websites, search providers, DNS resolvers, account services and network operators each see different information. The Who can see my activity guide explains the boundaries.

You
WebsiteRequests to its pages, your IP address
Search providerWhat you search for
DNS resolverDomain names you look up
Network operatorConnection metadata, not HTTPS page contents
Account you sign intoActivity on its own service
Each party sees a different slice. No single setting hides you from all of them.

Optional diagnostics

Usage data and automatic crash reporting are off by default in the reviewed source. If you opt in, inherited Mozilla infrastructure can receive reports. See the Privacy Notice for details and gaps that still need a production release audit.
